Zinc is an essential ion for cells and plays significant roles in the growth, development, and differentiation. ZIP10 mRNA was found to be significantly decreased in the intestines and kidneys of hypothyroid rats and increased in those of hyperthyroid rats, indicating that ZIP10 is positively regulated by thyroid hormones. ZIP10 mRNA was also found to be upregulated in invasive and metastatic breast cancer and cell lines, suggesting that ZIP10 could serve as a possible marker for the metastatic phenotype and possibly a target for novel treatment strategies. At least three isoforms of ZIP10 are known to exist.

Omschrijving: CDNF Antibody: The conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor (CDNF) is a neurotrophic factor for dopaminergic neurons and highly homologous to the mesencephalic-astrocyte-derived neuro-trophic factor. Somewhat surprisingly, CDCF is expressed at higher levels in tissues such as heart, skeletal muscle and testes than in brain. Similar to the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), CDNF can prevent the 6-hydroxylamine (6-OHDA)-induced degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in a rat model of Parkinson's disease. Furthermore, CDNF was able to restore the dopaminergic function and prevent the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, suggesting that CDNF might be suitable for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. At least two isoforms of CDNF are known to exist.

More recently it was identified as a mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor with selectivity for dopaminergic neurons, similar to glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and CDNF. In rat brain slices, MANF enhanced nigral gamma-aminobutyric acid release. Like GDNF and CDNF, MANF has selective neuroprotective activity for dopaminergic neurons suggesting that it may be indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Expression of MANF has also been shown to be induced during ER stress, suggesting that it may play a role in protein quality control during ER stress.

This component is a heteromeric complex consisting of 3 catalytic subunits encoded by mitochondrial genes and multiple structural subunits encoded by nuclear genes. The mitochondrially-encoded subunits function in electron transfer, and the nuclear-encoded subunits may function in the regulation and assembly of the complex. This nuclear gene encodes a protein similar to polypeptides 1 and 2 of subunit VIIa in the C-terminal region, and also highly similar to the mouse Sig81 protein sequence. This gene is expressed in all tissues, and upregulated in a breast cancer cell line after estrogen treatment. It is possible that this gene represents a regulatory subunit of COX and mediates the higher level of energy production in target cells by estrogen.

The normal function of STEAP is still uncertain; unlike other members of the STEAP family, STEAP1 does not promote iron or copper reduction or uptake and lacks the FNO-like reductase domain critical for activity. However, its expression is highly increased in multiple cancer cell lines, including prostate, bladder, colon, and ovarian cancers. Supporting this is evidence that STEAP1 peptides can be used to stimulate CD8+ T cells from healthy donors, enabling them to recognize STEAP1-positive human tumor cells, suggesting that STEAP1 may a potential target for cancer immunotherapy. The IFNA family consists of 24 or more genes or pseudo-genes. The alpha interferons are mainly produced by lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, and cell lines such as Namalwa and KG1 following induction by viruses, nucleic acids, and glucocorticoid hormones. They are involved in virus resistance on target cells, inhibition of cell proliferation, induction of cytokines and regulation of expression of MHC class I antigens.
