Het wordt al geruime tijd gebruikt in onderzoek, voor de monsterbereiding van urine, volbloed, plasma en andere biologische matrices. Andere toepassingen zijn onder meer milieu- en residutesten, zoals analyse van industrieel, huishoudelijk en afvalwater. EXtrelut® NT wordt voorverpakt in patronen of als los sorptiemiddel geleverd. EXtrelut® NT vereenvoudigt vloeistof-vloeistofextractie door scheidingstrechters te vervangen. Het gebruik van een enkele stap is efficiënter, bespaart zowel oplosmiddel als materiaal en tijd, in tegenstelling tot klassieke trechterscheiding. Het waterige monster wordt eenvoudig aangebracht op het EXtrelut® NT sorptiemiddel. Het verdeelt zichzelf over de chemisch inerte matrix en werkt zo als een stationaire fase. Vervolgens vindt elutie plaats met behulp van organische oplosmiddelen die niet mengbaar zijn met water. Alle lipofiele stoffen worden uit de waterfase in de organische fase geëxtraheerd.
