Omschrijving: Napsin is a pepsin-like aspartic proteinase, in the A1 clan of the AA clade of proteinases. There are two closely related napsins, napsin A and napsin B. Immunohistochemical studies revealed high expression levels of napsin A in human lung and kidney but low expression in spleen. It is expressed as a single chain protein in type II pneumocytes and in adenocarcinomas of lung. The high specificity expression of napsin A in adenocarcinomas of lung is useful to distinguish primary lung adenocarcinomas from adenocarcinomas of other organs.^1-5

Omschrijving: Anti-CEA is employed essentially as a tool to assist in the distinction between adenocarcinoma and epithelioid malignant mesotheliomas,¹ along with other markers such as those against calretinin, CK 5&6, CD15, HBME-1, MOC-31, and Ber-EP4.¹ Another suggested use of anti-CEA is to immunophenotype various metastatic adenocarcinomas as a means of identifying their origin within a panel of different markers.¹ Its positivity is seen in adenocarcinomas from the lung, colon, stomach, esophagus, pancreas, gallbadder, urachus, salivary gland, ovary, and endocervix.^2,3 Polyclonal anti-CEA is useful in staining hepatocellular carcinoma in a canalicular pattern.^2,4
